U14's get great win at Painswick
17th December 2006
Dursley RFC – U14’s Match Report
Match Date:
Opposition: Painswick RFC
Venue: Painswick
Having faced Painswick in October and painfully lost 38-0, Dursley yet again journeyed to the cherry and whites ground, hoping for a more positive re-match.
As previously both teams opened well with neither taking the upper hand. Strength in defence from fullback Jack Pascoe, combined with attacking runs from centres Ollie Meikle and Mike Beswick saw Dursley slowly gain the advantage. Closing on half-time, No.8 Jon Turner provided the long awaited opener, crashing through the weak tackles to touch down between the sticks. The easy conversion to fly-half Ryan Malpass gave the visitors a slim 7-0 lead.
The second-half continued much like the first, with Painswick making ground only to be beaten back by the Dursley squad. However, attacking down the wing gave the home side the try they sought after. The equalising conversion beckoned, directly under the posts - but the hastily taken kick failed to go over the bar, leaving a demoralised Painswick lagging behind by two points. Painswick went on the attack again, but Dursley held them out until the final whistle, much to the relief of the visiting players and parents alike.
