Dursley Rugby Club Update
17th April 2020
After the shock and sadness of losing Ross so suddenly, it was wonderful to see how people from across the Club and the wider rugby community came together to pay tribute to him last Saturday in ‘Raising a Glass to Ross’.
A great family man, rugby man and clubman. He will be sorely missed by us all and our thoughts continue to be with Sally, Jack and Jess.
It is hard to follow with more mundane matters, but we know that Ross wanted the Club to continue to thrive and below is an update on a few things to do with the Club during this time.
We continue to manage the affairs of the Club as best we can to ensure we deal with the loss of income and reduce our ongoing expenses. Our plans seem to be working which is good news!
We are also planning as much as we can for the resumption of activity so that we can ‘hit the ground running’ (quite literally!) when we get the all clear.
Our thanks go to everyone who is helping with all of that.
One way you can continue to help the Club during this time is to keep up with any subs payments that you make on a monthly basis (we know this only applies to some) and also to continue your membership of the 200 Club.
On that subject, those of you who are members of the 200 Club will be pleased to know that we are arranging for a videoing of the draws that have been missed since the start of the year. The draws will take place on 17th & 18th April and we will post the video as well as news of the winners on the website and Facebook page in the next few days. We are also working on a technical option so that future draws can be done live via Facebook if we remain in lockdown.
And if you are not a member of the 200 Club and want to know more and/or join, please message the Club and we will get back to you – it’s a great way to help the club financially for relatively little expense! Here;s all the info you need - https://www.dursleyrfc.co.uk/page?id=25 - please join us!
Meanwhile Pete and Ant are working hard to repair and improve our grounds, including our new land (taking advantage of this enforced rest time). Huge thanks to them.
The new land has been fenced and we are hopeful it will be ready for us to use in the autumn (though we lost a lot of time in prepping it due to the awful wet winter/spring).
A big shout out should also go out to all of the members and supporters of the Club who we know are working in the various key worker roles – across the NHS, other caring sectors, shops & supermarkets, bin collection, posties, delivery drivers - to name most but not all! Plus anyone helping with the various volunteer networks that are helping people, including GL11. Thank you.
Also congratulations to all those in the Club who took part in the ‘Brave the Shave’ challenge which raised over £5,000 for the NHS Charities – well done lads!!
And what a brilliant video posting by the U10s, demonstrating their team work and skills despite being in lock-down! Can anyone else match that?
As posted last time, any Club members able and willing to assist with volunteering locally are encouraged to contact the GL11 Community Hub, who are coordinating the local volunteer effort at office@gl11.org.uk . You will also be aware of the various nation-wide campaigns.
Further updates will be provided as things progress. If you have any queries about the Club or have any suggestions to make, please do so via your usual Club contact network.
Please stay safe and healthy during this time and continue look out for those who need your support.
Simon Bilous - Club Chairman on behalf of the Management Committee
