The semi-final of the Stroud combination was played last Saturday when Dursley entertained Mintey. In near perfect conditions Dursley kicked off playing down the slope. For what is believed to be a first in the history of the club 2 sets of brothers played for the first team with Matt and Jo Bilous and Ed and Mike Kerr all contributing in the team performance.
The game turned out to be an evenly fought contest however Dursley went ahead late in the first half when Mintey lost possession near the Dursley 22. Greg Allen counter attacked and launched a tremendous chip and chase Brad Winchle won the foot race, gathered the ball on the opponents 22 and glided over the line to touch down. Ed Burch added the conversion.
Shortly before half time Burch kicked a penalty to give Dursley a hard-earned 10-0 lead. The second half began the same as the first with both sides cancelling out the attempts of the other. Mintey threw everything at the home side but the defence was awesome. A tense final 10 minutes ensued after Mintey did finally breach the Dursley line for an unconverted try but the defence held firm to see Dursley through to the final with a 10-5 win.
Dursley now have 3 teams through to different cup finals with the 2nd team playing this Sunday 23rd against Wotton 1st XV at Stroud Rugby Club. The 3rd XV and the 1st team both play their finals on Saturday 6th May with both games being played at Stroud Rugby Club
