New coaching set up for Dursley
31st August 2018
Former club captain Jack Robson has been announced as Dursley head coach for the 2018-19 season.
Jack, aged 29 from Cam (pictured right) has played for Dursley Rugby Club (DRFC) since he was 6 years old, winning many honours including seven county appearances as a senior player.
Jake Ward, senior rugby manager at DRFC is delighted with the appointment, he said:
"I'm excited about the new coaching set up this year. We've brought in Jack because he brings a wealth of rugby playing and leadership experience and I hope his winning mentality will continue in his new coaching role."
"Myself and Jack have had many conversations over the summer and it’s clear that he has very high expectations for the current squad, with promotion being his main priority. He is also keen for the squad to follow in his footsteps and win a game a twickenham."
Jack said: “I’m really looking forward to working with a talented group of lads that have been together for a while now. We’ve been inconsistent in our results over the last couple of seasons and that’s something I’ll be looking to change. If we can get that right then there’s no reason we shouldn’t be playing in Glos prem next season.”
Jack will be replaced as club captain by Chris Perrett.
Jake Ward (pictured right) said: "Chris has some very large boots to fill, and filled them he has. He has worked tirelessly over the off season encouraging everyone to get up to pre-season and it showed when we had 25+ people turn out against Cheltenham saracens for a friendly. It's often been thought that we lacked depth in our squad but I think these two have shown it’s there!"
Positions in the first team will be hotly contested this year which also bodes well for the second team, Dursley United, who will be chasing cup hopes once again.
Jake added: "We will not only see a strong first team squad but strong seconds and regular games for the Dursley Nomads, 3rd team. Ross Reeves and Lee Barton will continue with the work they did last year and hopefully push more colts through to senior rugby."
