Dursley U14s vs. Widden U14s
15th October 2006
Match Date: Sunday 15th October 2006
Opposition: Widden Old Boys RFC
Venue: Widden OB RFC
Playing away from home at a club steeped in Gloucester history, Dursley U14’s faced Widden Old Boys last weekend, and came away with their first win of the season.
Dursley started slowly, with Widden forcing the visitors to camp in their own half for long periods, but it wasn’t long before the visitors No.8 Jon Turner opened the scoring, breaking through the weak defensive tackles to take the one-handed stretch over the line between the posts. Not to be outdone, Widden came back with own try just before half-time, but poor discipline in the Widden ranks saw flyhalf Ryan Malpass gifted a penalty in front of the posts to stretch the Dursley lead to 10-5 at the break.
The second half saw Turner run in two more tries, but Widden held on to come back with two of their own late into the game to remain in contention. Dursley kept the faith and captain Ed Wooldridge, broke through the opposition defence from his normal fullback position to score the next. Another period of indiscipline saw Widden gift another three point penalty to Malpass, this time to close the match. Two conversions a piece to Jos Chillingworth and Malpass took Dursley to an impressive 34-19 victory.
The man of the match award was presented to Josh Bailey, who playing a new position for the season at flanker, proved to all he had the capability to stay.
