Dursley Rugby Club wins historic cup treble
10th May 2016
Dursley Rugby Club has taken home all three Stroud Combination Cups for the first time in its history.
On Saturday 9th April the Dursley Nomads (3rd XV) successfully defended the Bill Adams Trophy by beating Minchinhampton 32-10. On the same day Dursley 1st XV won the Senior Cup, beating Cirencester 14-10. The historic treble was rounded off on Saturday 7th May when Dursley Utd (2nd XV) beat Fairford on tries scored after the teams finished level on 19-19.
Simon Bilous, Chairman of Dursley Rugby Club said: “Winning all three trophies is an historic achievement and a testament to the efforts of the players at our club. Thank you to the team captains in marshalling our playing resources to compete on three fronts, as well as in the leagues. It also reflects our successes in transitioning so many of our youth players into senior rugby. The first team squad of 22 in the Final versus Cirencester for the Senior Cup included no fewer than 16 players who had come through our Mini & Youth section, and a further 20 played for the 2nds and 3rds in their cup campaigns. With a growing ladies section and new changing rooms being built this summer, there’s a lot for the whole club to feel proud about.”
