U11s make progress in 3-way
13th December 2011
Dursley U11s’ progress took a step forward in in a three-way friendly at Cleve RFC at the weekend with Southmead RFC as fellow visitors.
Overall Dursley recorded two losses, a draw and a hard-fought victory, but were most pleased with the competitiveness of their performances, given that they were again able to field two complete sides and had almost as many players present as the other two clubs combined. It was also good for Dursley to be able to welcome their newest recruit, Callan Poole-Evans, into his first competitive match in the Maroon & Gold.
On the field, Cleve were top dogs on the day, putting nine tries on the board against Dursley (six less than Cleve later achieved versus Southmead). However it wasn't all one-way traffic as Dursley's Alec Lloyd powered over the line on two occasions - the first of which was built on excellent work from Alfie Proto and a 'back from injury' Chris Gunton.
Across two separate low-scoring games against Southmead, Dursley did just enough to secure a combined aggregate win of two tries to one, with another for his season from joint top-scorer Solo Tomlinson (sharing this position with Lloyd currently) and an excellent winning try from Chris Parry, securing his Player Of The Week award for this and his combative and comitted spirit. A similar spirit was noticed in Tom Hearn who had to retire injured, although hopefully there's nothing too serious and he can return refreshed in the New Year.
