The spring weather continued to shine on Dursley U14s last weekend. Unfortunately the boys were unable to keep up their from of the past weekends and continue their unbeaten run. After their original opponents had to pull out of the fixture due to Cup commitments, Bredon Buzzards kindly agreed to come South and play a buoyant Dursley side.
Despite a fantastic first 15 minutes in which their forwards dominated the game, Dursley failed to capitalise on impressive possession and territory scoring only one converted try through captain Nick Maitre. Weak tackling let through Bredons strong winger for two tries to make the score 12 - 7 after the first 20 mins. The second 20 mins period started just as brightly for Dursley with the forwards continuing their good work. However Bredon scored 2 more breakaway tries to Dursley's single score from wing Perry Milan. More miss-timed tackling and a failure to secure our own ball meant that Dursley finished the second 20 24-14 in arrears.
The final 20 minutes could not have started worse for the Dursley boys with the defence shipping two tries in quick succession. With their heads down Dursley might have capitulated completely but they showed great spirit in taking the game back to Bredon. A series of attacks went unrewarded until Sam Skelton muscled his way over in the final minutes for his first try for Dursley. The final score of 34 -21 didn't reflect the closeness of the contest or the territorial superiority of the Dursley side.
There was a lot that was positive in the game and the team are confident they can resolve the defensive issues in time for the County Cup.
