Dursley under 8s match report – County Cup
Dursley excel at County Cup
Longlevens was the venue for Under 8’s County Cup on 5th March. Both Lions and Tigers were drawn in what looked like tricky groups.
Lions started their tournament with a polished performance against Cheltenham A. Tries from Tom Caesar and Chris Colston saw then though to a comfortable 5-0 victory. The other team in the group, Widden Old Boys also defeated Cheltenham which set up a game to decide the winner of the group. The Lions were superb, defending very well, keeping their heads under pressure and striking with pace and grace to score 4 tries to Widden’s 2. Lions won the group and would play Drybrook in the Play-Off round.
Tigers started their campaign against an experienced Longlevens A side. There followed a tight, exciting gain with Tigers battling away to 4-4 with a minute to go. Unfortunately a last gasp try from Longlevens meant an opening defeat for this determined side. The second match against Minchinhampton was also a close affair but having gone behind early in the game, the Tigers never recovered and fell to a 2-4 defeat. They would have to fight it out against Stow in the Plate.
In the play off round the Lions played a talented and physical Drybrook side and the result was in doubt right up until the last minute when Lions went over for their sixth try of the match to progress to the Quarter Finals.
The Quarter Final against Minchinhampton was a hard game played between two tired teams but Dursley were always on top and were delighted to look forward to the semi finals against Stroud in April at the end of the match.
Tigers were exceptional in their match against Stow and they to progressed through to the semi finals via a solid Quarter finals performance.
