Dursley U17 Triumph in South West Bowl Quarter Final
Dursley U17 22 Sherborne U17 5
Dursley travelled to Clifton Rugby Club to play in the quarter final of the South West Division Bowl. The afternoon was a fine and dry day, perfect for running rugby and the Dursley team certainly got off to a good start. Direct from the kick off Jamie Muir drilled the ball deep into the Sherborne half. This was the pattern for the first ten minutes, with Sherborne kicking well from defence and Dursley running the ball back to the Sherborne 22. From one of these forays the Dursley pack drove a maul under the posts, Simon Camm getting the try. Muir converted to give the Amber and Golds a deserved 7 points to 0 lead.
The Sherborne side though didn’t travel so far to give up at the first opportunity. From the kick off they got the ball out wide and Hallett scored. The conversion attempt failed to leave Dursley with a slender lead.
After the game went back and forth for the next 10 minutes, the Dursley side started to dominate in the forwards. Good driving in the maul with Mike Tree and Ben Morgan being particularly effective allowed excellent ball for scrum half H Pullin to spin the ball out wide. A perfectly executed backs move saw Mike Robinson score in the corner. Although Muir missed the conversion, he managed to slot an impressive long-range effort on the whistle of half time to leave the Dursley team with a 15 – 5 half time lead.
The Sherborne side battled well in the second half bringing their big winger into the centre. The Dursley side lost a little cohesion as well and it wasn’t until late in the game that the Amber and Golds put the match out of Sherborne’s reach with another well worked try. The forwards drove up the middle of the field, Simon Camm and Harry Williams working hard to secure the ball at the back for Pullin and Muir to put the backs away. This time replacement hooker Dan Meredith broke free and sprinted over from 20m leaving the Dursley side with a semi final berth.
