Match Date: Sunday 15th October
Opposition: Thornbury
Venue: Dursley RFC
Dursley started their national cup run with a good win over local rivals Thornbury at the Stinchcombe ground. Dursley went ahead after just 30 seconds into the game when Simon Camm pounced on a loose ball from the kick off and scored in the corner. Jamie Muir who had an excellent afternoon with the boot converted from the touch line.
The Thornbury side didn't come to make up the numbers and after some powerful forward work 20 minutes into the game the referee had no option but to sin bin two Dursley players for deliberate infringements. With just 13 players on the field the Thronbury side were able to power over and level the score. The fact that Dursley were 2 players down seemed to spark them into life and they came back to score just a few minutes later with Captain Judd Martin scoring out wide after some excellent backs handling put him in space. Again Jamie Muir converted.
Later in the half with Dursley, still 2 players short, the backs again connected to put full back Barney O'Dowd into space to score under the posts. Muir again converting to take Dursley into the half time break back to 15 men and with a 21-7 lead.
The second half saw the Thornbury side with the wind and the slope and they used it to good advantage. Early in the half they used their powerful driving mauls to good effect and scored out wide. The conversion was missed to make the score 24-12. Muir kicked a penalty late on to give the Dursley side a convincing 24-12 win and a trip to Cirencester in the next round.
