A Dursley U9s squad heavily depleted by illness and injury had a torrid time at Keynsham, facing a generally bigger and tougher and well organised Keynsham team who are yet to get close to losing this season. Despite this, Dursley acquitted themselves extremely well overall, and clearly had Keynsham concerned at the break in the second game, when Dursley led 1-0, having spent much of the game camped in Keynsham's half. The Dursley try eventually came courtesy of Solo Tomlinson being on hand to ground a loose ball beyond the goal line, following a number of excellent team drives from Jacob Parsonage, Jamie Rudge, Matthew Skelton, Ellis Gazard, Dominic Barton and Max Palmer - the latter being recognised with a Player of the Week award.
The break gave Keynsham chance to re-set though and this paid dividends with a try early in the second half, despite a number of superb tackles from captain Thomas Swift and Adam Jones. An evenly contested period then saw some good attacks, and defence, from both teams, but Dursley weren't able to break through again, despite effective ripping of the ball from Dursley's other Player of the Week, Alec Lloyd and good runs from Dominic Stevenson and Tom Hearn. As the final whistle seemed to be in sight, Keynsham's determination broke down Dursley's structure and support play and they were able to capitalise with a couple of breakaway trys for a 3-1 win.
The two other games, whilst still very competitive, with Dylan Harries and Alec Lloyd tackling out of their skin as always, saw more comfortable Keynsham victories (6-0 and 3-0). Dursley clearly have more work to do in both rucking to secure the ball and then moving it quickly and successfully away from contact to maximise the effectiveness of Dursley U9s typical 'running rugby' style of play.
