Dursley Cheetahs 4
Clifton Rascals 4
In a finely balanced match, Dursley Cheetahs showed the class and performance that they have been training so hard to achieve. The Rascals were well-drilled, with excellent attacking and tagging skills, but they met their match in the Cheetahs. Billy Lezard was razor sharp, cutting through the Clifton defence and securing several of the Cheetahs’ tries. Ryan Powell (Captain) took some superb tags, while namesake Ryan Cooper was determined and powerful in attack. Jessica Reeves, playing in her first match for the U7s, was nimble and speedy when heading for the line, while William Rowlands showed some fine footwork and supplied solid support. As usual, the well-practised combination of Sam Butcher, Hamish Gardner and Hal Smillie worked efficiently in support and defence. Player of the week was Jessica Reeves.
Dursley Dynamites 5
Clifton Scallywags 3
Dursley Dynamites experimented with some new tactics for their match against Clifton Scallywags … and the gamble paid off. The Dynamites’ three-man rush defence confounded the Scallywags, allowing the home side to reclaim the ball many times during the match. Dylan Bradbury and Aaron Tuck were constantly on the attack, moving play down to their opponent’s line whenever an opportunity arose. Tom Cox supplied solid support throughout the game, while Tris Cole sidestepped and wrongfooted the Scallywags time after time. Cody O’Callaghan (Captain) and Sam Butcher – showing strong legs despite playing in his second match of the day – were unyielding in defence, securing many of the Scallywags’ tags between them, while Ethan Goring continued to show fine handling skills. Player of the week was Cody O’Callaghan.
