Dursley Remembers
2nd November 2008
We sadly had one of our players die suddenly on Monday 27th October – Chris Ball (age 25), recently joined the club and quickly become a popular member of the first team front row club, playing prop. He was training to be a teacher and was also on teaching placement at Rednock.
All the Dursley teams (and their opposition) observed a minutes silence on Saturday in his memory.
Despite some changes to the team caused by unavailability’s, injury and call-ups to the first team, the blend of youth and experience continued to work well.
Holding their own in the set piece, and dominant in the loose and at the breakdown, it was only a matter of time before the pressure told. In his first game for the club, full-back Alex Pain showed good pace to back up a move for an early score, followed by centre Guy Simmonds, wing Lawrence Dungworth and centre Jordan Lewis – all converted in a faultless kicking display by fly-half Dan Brooks.
Ross upped their game and managed a score after prolonged pressure from their big pack before Pain struck again with a try before half-time – 33-5 to Dursley.
The second half saw a few changes for Dursley but no let-up in the quality of rugby, with tries coming from the ever-improving Josh Case, Jak Evans, Darren Sampson, Dungworth for his second and Nathan Perrett. An excellent all-round performance from the whole team, with No 8 Tom Stevens particularly impressive.
