Dursley started brightly putting the home side on the back foot in the early stages, but unfortunately all their attacking play either foundered on Hucclecote’s strong defence or some over fussy interpretation of the rules by the referee for which both sides suffered, resulting in a game that was never allowed to spark into life.
However despite the early territory Dursley suffered a sucker punch when a Hucclecote back was allowed to break at least four tackles and score against the run of play.
To their credit Dursley fought back and were denied a clear try when Fergus Watson pounced on a knock on to touchdown only for the referee to astound everybody watching by claiming he could not see awarding a five metre scrum instead.
The second half started scrappily, but was highlighted by some sparkling runs in particular from Charlie Easingwood and Nick Atkinson,Dursley now had some control and were encamped on Hucclecote’s try line only to be denied by some cynical infringements by the home side while on the try line, finally resulting in a penalty converted by Jamie Hayward.
The game was now up for grabs, but unfortunately Hucclecote seem to gain a second wind scoring two late tries as Dursley gallantly fought to the end.
Mention could go to the whole Dursley side as a mighty effort was made by all, taking into account that several players were away playing for the county, but man of the match awards went to Paul Belton and Tom Dawncey who were outstanding in a forward pack that played well and held their own.
