Dursley Seal Promotion to Div 1
16th April 2007
KINGSWOOD 10 DURSLEY 36
Dursley clinched the Division 2 title in style with an emphatic victory at Kingswood. The first half was a tight affair with Kingswood using their big forwards to maul the ball up the pitch at every opportunity. The maroons were starved of possession for long periods, but with ball in hand they looked dangerous.Dursley were unlucky not to go ahead after 20 minutes when the referee disallowed a certain Ollie Winterbottom try for obstruction. The hosts continued their style of rugby and with 10 minutes of the half left went over in the corner for an unconverted try.Dursley regained possession and a flowing backs move saw full back Stef Hawley score, Robbie Winchle adding the conversion for a half time lead 7 – 5.In the second half Dursley dominated serving up champagne rugby urged on by over 80 travelling fans. Scores came thick and fast Brad Winchle then Simon Cole, both unconverted for a 17 -5 lead. Ben Morgan blazed over and Winchle converted to put the game safe at 24 – 5. Complacency set in and the hosts rallied scoring another try to reduce the deficit, but Dursley struck again through Winterbottom and prop Greg Allen and another Winchle conversion to seal the game 36 – 10
Captain Andy Scott said `I had to make a difficult decision this week, leaving myself out through injury, but the boys fronted up and never looked in difficulty in the second half. I would like to thank all the 48 players we have used this season and the people who run the Club for their unstinting support. The crowd support we had today was fantastic – it was like playing at home, in someone else’s famous words – We came we saw we conquered !`
