Parent Sings Dursley's Praises to Gazette

Like any other parent, I was proud to see my son's picture (Greg) in the Gazette last week for his Inter Primary School Cross Country win. While I have all week suppressed the desire to say "oh yes he must get it from his father", the win brought into sharp focus the extraordinary effort that schools like Greg's Cam Everlands and his local clubs; Slimbridge Youth FC and Dursley Rugby Club, invest in the district's youth.
Ian Dixon, Head Teacher at Cam Everlands School sporting ethos shows through in all the school's children. Similarly the coaches and officials within Slimbridge YFC and Dursley RFC are there rain, wind or shine to teach football and rugby skills (and not always to a receptive audience). I think we should all be quietly indebted to this broad voluntary group, past and present, that give their time to redirecting our youth's energy. An energy which perhaps may otherwise be misplaced.
I know that Slimbridge YFC would always welcome new members at any time of the year and as their Secretary, I would be happy to take enquires from any parents who believe their children need a little weekend diversion. Likewise Shane Aldridge (01453 545711) as Coach at Dursley RFC would do the same. You only have to look at the number of children who turn up for weekend football and rugby training to know Dursley and the surrounding area has a strong sporting outlook. Let's keep it that way!
