Dursley Rugby Football Club
Welcome from the Chairman
Growing and prospering – a summer to build on
The 2017/18 season brings much to look forward to for the Club.
Off the field, the commissioning of the new changing rooms at the end of last season means that our members can enjoy much better facilities, and also allow for a greater range of activities to take place at the same time. Getting used to, and making the most of, this new-found flexibility will take a while but will definitely help as we develop the club further.
And during the summer, we have begun the development of the old changing rooms meaning that a new social area and new toilets will welcome everyone from the start of September (the latter being especially welcome I suspect!). The kitchen development has had to be put on hold whilst we raise sufficient funds.
We have also been welcoming members of the local village on regular occasions as they use the club for a social ‘pub’ get together.
Meanwhile, the recently re-launched cricket section has been successful on and off the pitch, pushing for promotion in their first season, and expanding its membership.
And the Running Club has had a hugely successful summer, extending its activities especially for younger athletes.
So all in all a summer to build on
In the next 2 weeks the senior and mini & youth sections of the rugby club will start their seasons, welcoming new and old players alike.
The Dursley Ladies' team will be re-entering the league after a long time away, and we all wish them well with this endeavour – the excitement of the Women’s Rugby World Cup certainly shows why this is such a growth sport.
The Dursley Men’s teams will be starting their league and friendly fixtures during September. It’s been good to see some of the older youth players training with the senior players during the summer, and we look forward to seeing them transition into men’s rugby as the months go by.
And the mini and youth teams have their usual packed schedule of training and fixtures to look forward too, as well as the festival weekends on 1st and 15th October.
As always, new players for all sections are welcome, so please encourage anyone interested to give rugby a go.
Once again, I thank all those hard working individuals who put in so much of their time in their various roles at the Club to make all this possible – without them none of the above would have happened, or be happening.
