Dursley Rugby Football Club
Welcome from the Chairman
Reflections on last year and looking forward
Those of you who attended the end of season summer ball in June will know that when we reflected on last season there was plenty to be excited and proud about.
On the field the mini & youth section continued to thrive whether it be at u6 where we had a squad of more than 50 who tried out rugby during the course of the season, the 53 children registered across u7 and u8, through the various successes at festivals at u9s, the enjoyable tours for the u10s and u11s, the u12s beating great rivals Matson, the u13s and u15s having 7s success, the u14s beating their county champions, the u16s winning the county plate and the colts having 7s success, and cup runs in county and national to name only some.
The ladies played several games with notable wins and a successful tour to Barcelona, and the senior men’s teams had a clean sweep of the Combination Cups for the first time in the clubs history, and the 1st team lost out narrowly on promotion buy just 1 point.
Alongside that the running club has continued to grow and make a valuable contribution to the development and potential of the whole club.
Off the field there was lots of fun to be had at various events, as well as the notable success of the changing rooms project in reaching the funding target that allowed the work to start in May.
So how do we top that when looking forward?
Well there is more of the same to come I am sure. The season has started well across the board with the senior men’s teams winning all games on the first 2 weekends, the ladies lining up their first matches and organising their tour (guess where...?) and the mini and youth teams all gearing up and adapting to the new law variations that apply to them.
Add to that the real and concrete (no pun intended!) prospect of the new changing rooms being completed before the end of the season it is fair to say that there is plenty to look forward to.
I thank all those hard working individuals who put in so much of their time in their various roles to make all this possible – without them none of the above would be happening.
Very best of luck for the coming season.
