U12s at the Cirencester 7s
May 5th 2010
In their last ever outing as mini rugby players, DRFC U12s travelled to Cirencester RFC for their annual 7s Tournament. A depleted squad of 10 arrived on a bitterly cold morning and were straight into the first game against the hosts. Still rubbing the sleep from their eyes, Dursley quickly conceded a soft try to Cirencester's muscular Centre. However, cool heads, skillful passing and the pace of Greg Penlington allowed Dursley to first level up the score and then stretch away to record a comfortable victory.
A relatively straightforward win against Minety was followed by a tougher encounter against Stow on the Wold. Although clearly the more skillful and adventurous team, Dursley just coudn't manage to stretch away from a physical and organised Stow, but a draw was enough to qualify Dursley for the final with a match to spare.
The last pool game and the Final itself were played against a magnificent Stroud side who were head and shoulders above every other side in the U12s Tournament. Although all 10 Dursley players worked hard and played well, they were simply out played in all areas to lose first the Pool game and then the Final itself. The boys were worthy Runners Up and received their trophies with pride and are looking forward to the 15-man game next season.
