Dursley Under-9s match report – Thornbury Festival
April 19th 2010
LILLIE WADEY and Joe Butterfield were at the forefront of a gutsy display by Dursley Under-9s at the Thornbury Festival.
Captain Wadey and speedster Butterfield picked up player of the week trophies as just reward for their efforts from tough games against Frampton, Thornbury and St Brendan’s Old Boys.
Butterfield made Dursley’s run of the morning down the left against Thornbury and his long pass was picked up by Alfie Galvin off his bootstraps, who ran it in from 15 metres out.
And it was Wadey who made the running for the second try against the Broncos with Elliott Orchard getting on the end of the resultant scrum ball to touch down.
Despite their best defensive efforts, including great tackling from Jago Harling and Dylan Harries, Thornbury raced away for a 7-2 scoreline.
The opening game against Frampton saw Dursley go down 7-0 although Jacob Parsonage and Adam Jones led up front and Dominic Barton got in the mix at hooker.
St Brendan’s provided even tougher opposition although the 10-0 reverse belied Dursley’s efforts, including a promising break from Jamie Rudge and support from Ellis Gazzard.
