Beautiful Weather greets Ball and Beer Festival
July 7th 2010
Sunshine and 20C was the perfect accompaniment to Dursley RFC Annual Ball and Beer Festival. The fund raising event, now in it’s 7th year attracted over 1200 visitors over the weekend, with families enjoying the sunshine on the Saturday afternoon and local bands entertaining visitors into the evening. Over 50 beers, ciders and perrys were available for sampling from both local and national breweries.
Friday night’s Ball attracted the largest numbers yet with 500 guests enjoying Dinner, a fund raising auction and live band ‘Phat and Phunky.’ Ken Eales, DRFC Social and Fund Raising Manager commented: ‘ We are delighted with the growth of this event over the past few years. This weekend represents the key fund raising event in our calendar and we hope to top the £20,000 achieved in the last couple of years. I would like to pass on our thanks to the residents of Stinchcombe for their help in allowing us to stage such a big event in a small village. I’d also like to thank all the DRFC volunteers who have worked very hard over the weekend to allow all our visitors to have a thoroughly enjoyable time.’
The weekend concluded with a Last Night at the Proms event in the club marquee, which was enjoyed by many of the residents of Stinchcombe.
Rugby Club Chairman Martin Greaves said, ‘ It has been a fantastic weekend for our club; both a celebration of the club’s successes this year and a chance to meet and socialise with friends and players as well as the families of our growing minis and youth section. I am so delighted that our local club continues to go from strength to strength.’
