Dursley RFC Future
Encouraged by this well managed success - and by a time-limited opportunity to acquire adjacent land - the club is now embarking on a project to acquire the ground to the west of the existing club house which will enable the club to provide additional training and playing facilities to encourage youngsters to continue to develop within the club.
The Objectives of the Project:
- The purchase of sufficient land to meet demands of Dursley Mens, Ladies, Mini/Juniors Rugby & Stinchcombe Stragglers Cricket Clubs and to lay down appropriate playing areas.
- To ensure that the field is constructed so that it can be used for other sports e.g. the athletics club where appropriate
- To provide access and parking provision to take traffic further away from residential area, increasing road safety and reducing noise pollution.
The success of the Clubs initiatives has been widely recognised as a valuable contribution to the encouragement of a healthy lifestyle amongst young (and not so young) members of the community. As a result, support for the project has been received from many organisations and individuals, including Gloucestershire First; Vale Vision the Parish Council (Mr. R Holloway), local councillors including Mrs. M Nolder, Mr. D Andrewartha, Mr. N Studdart-Kennedy, the Gloucestershire Constabulary, Dursley and District Athletics Club and has been discussed in detail with Stroud District Council and the Stinchcombe Parish Council.
In particular, the project has been acknowledged as being of significant benefit to the local community and the Foundation of the Rugby Football Union has undertaken to provide significant financial support in the purchase of the land. This will be of enormous benefit when added to the funds raised by efforts of the club members.
The club is committed to ensuring that all members of the community are kept fully informed of developments.
