Welcome from the President
The Club goes from strength to strength both on and off the field. The ground and facilities are looking good and this helps to maintain the image of the club to visiting sides and supporters. Following a successful season the 1st team in now in the Glos Premier Division and we wish them every success. In order to maintain the high standards that have been set it is essential to have good support and in this context we are very grateful to our sponsors. The successes on the field of play require considerable effort off the field. Again the Club is fortunate in having strength in its organisation and administration with many hard workers. The younger members are becoming involved but we must not become complacent about the situation. Succession planning off the field will ensure strength on the field and this is required to maintain the high standards.
The development of the junior section of the club is widely acknowledged to have contributed to the wider success of the club. This is now the main source of new players for the senior sides as well as providing individuals who assist in the running of the club as a whole. In recent times efforts have been made to develop the interest of past players and this has reflected in the spectator numbers. We wish the junior section another successful season.
The 2012-13 season will see the 60th anniversary of the re-founding of the club. I have in my possession the club records including the minute books going back to when the club was re-established in June 1953. These books make interesting reading. The first games were played at Stinchcombe close to where the new pitch is and the teams changed in the village hall. After a short while the Dursley Recreation Ground became the permanent location for matches before the Club moved back to Stinchcombe in 1970. The Club can look back with pride over these sixty years and also back over more than one hundred years on the various guises that preceded the present club. We look forward to the various celebrations of our Diamond Jubilee.
I am very proud to be President of such a successful club and one which has the respect of the rugby playing community as well as the community in general.
